Configuring the built-in Cisco IPSec VPN client in Mac OSX, iPad and iPhone

Here’s how to configure OSX,iPad,iPhone to use an enterprise Cisco VPN concentrator (which is what you connect to from internet when you want to virtually join a company or school’s LAN).

Open System Preferences –> Network –> click the plus sign (Create a new service). On the iPhone, choose Settings –> General –> Network –> VPN –> Add VPN Configuration. On the Mac, chose VPN as the interface. Choose Cisco IPSec as the VPN type, and supply a service name as a description (an arbitrary name for the connection, whatever makes sense to you).

Difference between an iPad 2 and iPad 3

  • Check the screen. if you can see pixels, its an iPad 2. Also, when you pull up a keyboard on the iPad, if there is a little button on the bottom row that looks like a microphone, then it is the New iPad
    (iPad 3).
  • There is a microphone icon located at the bottom of the keyboard screen. This is ONLY true IF you have turned on dictation from the general settings section under keyboard. If it is turned on, you will see a microphone key on the bottom left of the keyboard next to the space bar.
  • iPad 3 offers 4G, while the iPad 2 has only 3G.

JERUSALEM – Israel has banned imports of Apple Inc.’s hottest new product, the iPad, citing concerns the powerful gadget’s wireless signals could disrupt other devices.
Customs officials said Thursday they have already confiscated about 10 of the lightweight tablet computers since Israel announced the new regulations this week. The ban prevents anyone — even tourists — from bringing iPads into Israel until officials certify that they comply with local transmitter standards.
